Cannabidiol protects dopaminergic cells in laboratory model of Parkinson's disease
Researchers investigated the neuroprotective effects of cannabidiol on human neuroblastoma cells exposed to oxidative toxins. The compound prevented the aggregation of a key antioxidant transcription factor, thereby preserving mitochondrial function and reducing cellular damage. However, these findings are limited to in vitro cell cultures and require validation in living organisms.

Our view
A result in cultured cells, which cannot be carried over to people. The mechanism — cannabidiol preventing the aggregation of the Nrf2 protein — is a route that had not previously been described. We do not treat work at this stage as evidence of therapeutic effect. We will watch whether it leads to animal and then clinical studies.
