Therapeutic potential of the endocannabinoid system in respiratory diseases
This review analysed how the endocannabinoid system regulates major pulmonary conditions, such as asthma and acute lung injury. Our view
This is mechanistic and preclinical work, and it should be read as a map of where research might go rather than as a basis for treatment. The context-dependence the authors describe is the central difficulty: the same signalling pathway can be protective or harmful depending on the state of the tissue. Translation into respiratory medicine will require selective agents and adequately powered clinical trials before any claim of efficacy can be made.
